Johnny Quiroz and Marcus Rodriguez, The Guides of Texas

We are The Guides of Texas.  Johnny and I have been guiding the Texas Hill Country for over ten years.  We met at Southwest Texas State University and we soon realized that we both had a love of rivers and angling.

Our river adventures started on the beautiful Blanco River.  Soon, we started fishing and exploring other rivers and we became experts at paddling canoes, reading water and catching big fish.  In 1997 we started The Guides of Texas.

As the years went on, we fished, guided, and introduced many people to the beauty of fly fishing in the Texas Hill Country.  As a result of our initial success we decided to pursue other adventures.  Johnny decided to photograph, travel and guide throughout the Western Hemisphere.  I decided to pursue a "real job" and live the grand adventure of raising a family.  Our time became very precious and we did not guide full time.  A few of our clients became very frequent visitors and we dedicated most of our time, taking these clients on different adventures throughout the Hill Country.  We are now looking for a few more clients who wish to fish and explore the wilds of Texas.

Like the proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes, we have decided to renew The Guides of Texas.  We are now in our thirties.  Johnny is well traveled.  I have a lovely wife and three beautiful daughters.  Johnny and I have decided to once again allow our lives to revolve around what is very important to us; rivers and fishing.  We guide on nearly 1,000 river miles.  It is on rivers were we see ourselves and our clients become natural.  We use our minds and our muscles to paddle down rivers and finesse fish out of their watery hiding places. We want to show the world our photographs and tell the stories of the landscape and livelihood we have come to love.
We have learned rivers the hard way.
We are older and wiser.
We are raw and natural.
We are The Guides of Texas.
